Reiki in a nutshell
Reiki is a spiritual practice from Japan from the early 20th century, which promotes self-healing and self-development.
Today there are two major trends worldwide. In 1938, Mrs. Takata brought Reiki to the USA and it has since spread to the west. That is the Takata lineage of Usui Shiki Ryôhô.
In the same time frame showed that Reiki continued to be taught all these years in Japan. This lineage flow which is also known as Japanese Reiki, has also spread worldwide now.
The Shingon Reiki style founded in 2005 by Mark Hosak, teaches both systems and supplements these with his own research of the spiritual traditions and philosophies of Japan to Esoteric Buddhism Mikkyo密教, Shamanism Shinto神道, Japanese magic ShugenDo修験道and Western magic and hermeneutics.
If you are interested to come back to the roots of how Reiki was taught in Japan before it reached the West in 1938 and also learn the benefits of the westerly flow, then you are at the right place with Shingon Reiki

Definitions of Reiki
One can define Reiki in this way:
• The word Reiki 霊 気 means spiritual life force energy.
• Reiki is a spiritual healing practice from Japan, supporting you to feel more connected to life. It includes a large number of exercises and methods that you can use to develop your energy bond with your life. This offers many advantages to the practitioner.
From the above two definitions it is clear that the Japanese Mikao Usui developed as a system in the early 20th century, based on his experience by working with this spiritual life energy.
Today we are experiencing Reiki mainly in two ways:
Either by letting us be treated with it, or even learning Reiki in a course. Reiki applications can be used for people of all ages from children to seniors, and is also good for animals.
Reiki styles and their authenticity
There are many Reiki styles – but what exactly is Reiki? That’s an interesting question. If you look around on the Internet or with different people also maintains, one might think that there is a universe of different systems and styles, who all call themselves Reiki and often they shall say something to the opposites.
In Germany there is the professional association ProReiki defining exactly what Reiki is and what it is not. ProReiki does not refer here to a particular style. Rather, it is important that the style always goes back on the traditional Usui Reiki and also currently teaches the contents of the Usui Reiki. In this context, it is possible to submit an application to the characterization of a style in ProReiki. After detailed analysis, it does say then, if a style of Reiki can be characterized by ProReiki . If this is the case, it is most likely a legitimate style, except that this style is changing in the course of time by which the Usui Reiki characterizing contents are taken out.
For example, Shingon Reiki is ProReiki characterized since 2014.
